A hidden chapter in North German history, power, greed and a young woman who stands up to the oil barons: from today, NDR is showing the complete first series of SCHWARZES GOLD. It kicks off on Wednesday at 8.15 pm with the first two episodes.

From today, the six-part drama series SCHWARZES GOLD can be seen on NDR television. Episodes 1 and 2 kick off on Wednesday at 8.15 pm. Episodes 3 to 6 follow on Saturday. Immediately afterwards, NDR will also broadcast a documentary on the true story of the first oil boom in the Lüneburg Heath, which served as the inspiration for the series.

With SCHWARZES GOLD, Kinescope Film GmbH, in collaboration with NDR, has produced an extraordinary chapter in North German history. The series transports viewers to a fictional village in the Lüneburg Heath around 1900. When resourceful farmers there strike oil, a rapid rise begins, marked by power struggles, unscrupulous business dealings and profound social changes.

At the centre of the story is Johanna Lambert, a farmer’s daughter. Following her father’s violent death, she stands up to the all-powerful oil barons and fights for justice, self-determination and the future of her homeland. SCHWARZES GOLD tells of the destructive power of boundless greed and the courage of a young woman who fights for her independence against all odds.

For those who missed the TV broadcast or would like to watch the series again: all episodes of SCHWARZES GOLD are still available in the ARD Mediathek.
